Sinopse:
Série de mistério baseada nos romances e contos de suspense de Agatha Christie estrelada por seu famoso personagem, Hercule Poirot, o ex-policial belga que se mudou de vez para Londres depois da guerra e tornou-se um infalível e inconfundível detetive particular. Em cada episódio, Poirot resolve um crime misterioso, geralmente ao lado de seu fiel colega inglês, Capitão Hastings, ou de seu amigo-rival, Inspetor Japp. Seja porque o crime lhe chama a atenção, seja porque um cliente lhe paga para resolvê-lo, uma coisa é certa: nada escapa à mente afiada de Poirot.

Nem tudo é ficção.
No episódio Poirot 503 - The Yellow Íris - Poirot é deportado da Argentina como espião durante um golpe de estado militar.
A deportação pode não ter ocorrido mas o golpe de estado é bem real e aconteceu em 06/09/1930 com a deposição do presidente Juan Hipólito del Sagrado Corazón de Jesus IRIGOYEN.
Como se vê Agatha Christie também é cultura.
No episódio 505 The Adventure of The Italian Nobleman, Poirot faz menção a uma sociedade criminosa italiana mais antiga que a Mafia - mas esta na verdade não existiu: I Masnadieri (Os bandidos) é uma ópera em quatro atos de Giuseppe Verdi, e Masnada, como é citado no episódio quer dizer 'grupo de pessoas desonestas ou mal intencionadas'.
Agatha Christie também é cultura.
Tratando-se de Poirot, que preza a exatidão e não admite – nunca – a menor falha, é imperdoável o que acontece no capítulo “The Kidnapped Prime Minister”.
Tudo foi rigorosamente preparado para uma entrevista de Poirot com Sir Bermard Dodge, subsecretário de Estado dos Negócios Estrangeiros, exatamente ao meio dia e de tal forma cronometrado, que ouve-se o carrilhão do Parlamento iniciando as 12 badaladas coincidindo, a última delas, exatamente quando Poirot adentra a sala do seu anfitrião, marcando, assim, sua extrema pontualidade.
No decorrer da conversa, porém, Poirot consulta seu relógio de bolso e informa: “It's now a quarter past twelve”, traduzido como:
-É um quarto para o meio dia.
Poirot teria um ataque!
Naturalmente este comentário é apenas uma brincadeira para enfatizar o rigor do nosso admirado detetive sem nenhum propósito de crítica aos abnegados tradutores, aos quais presto minhas homenagens.
