Also known as 'Chetan, Indian Boy.'This Bavarian western is an original drama which takes considerable pains to ensure authenticity about the period and the place. Around 1880 in Montana. Shepherd Alaska drives his herd into a territory which just had been 'cleaned' of Indians by the 'Whites'. Although on public land, the rancher Johnson objects to the shepherd's 'intrusion.' Johnson is holding Chetan captive; a young lad who was on his own looking for bison. Alaska decides to rescue Chetan from the Johnsons, and he succeeds. Then he puts him to work on the sheep ranch. At first he fails to make Chetan understand why he is any better than the boy's previous captors. Despite their initial antagonism, they become friends as they work together to run the sheep ranch and survive the attacks of the Johnsons. Awards: 1975 German Film Critics Award.
The director Hark Bohm directed his first short film Wie starb Roland S? in 1970, and two years later, his first feature Tschetan, der Indianerjunge. Following this, he directed numerous award-winning theatrical and television films. Hark Bohm was a founding member of the Filmverlag der Autoren and the Hamburg Film Office.
