A Swedish Love Story is Roy Andersson's first feature film in 1970 and was an enormous international success, winning several awards at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1970. It is still shown today at film festivals around the world.
The film takes place during the Swedish high summer and looks at two young people (a boy and a girl - HG) meeting with love. We get to see their heedless love grow while parent and the adult world outside grind on in routine relationships and worklives. The two young teenagers still have difficulties to express their feelings in words, so instead they often communicate through hidden signals, a sort of body and eye sign-language.
A personal note from Hanno Giessen: Besides a plethora of other virtues, 'En kärlekshistoria' can claim to be the first film to be graced by the presence of Björn Andrésen, although only in a supporting role.
